AREA OF PRODUCTION Valpolicella
PAIRING Meat, Cheese, Pasta

Founded way back in 1857, Bertani currently manages over 200 hectares of vineyards, located along the crucial areas for wine production in the Veneto: Valpolicella, Valpantena, Lake Garda and Soave. By indulging in the peculiarities of each territory, the company succeeds in creating wines of the highest standard of quality, characteristics that are now at home at every harvest. From exclusively indigenous grapes comes this Amarone della Valpolicella, an intense, enveloping wine with a long persistence that, thanks to its qualities of finesse and elegance, is not afraid to stand the test of time.

Dark ruby red with a slight tinge at the rim of the glass, the nose has intense hints of jammy blackberry and dried plum, spicy notes of star anise and black pepper, with toasted hints of hazelnut and almond; tobacco, vanilla and chocolate close, against a balsamic background of eucalyptus. The taste is soft, with tapered tannins and great structure, especially due to the important but not intrusive alcohol note, reaching the very long finish of cinchona and dark spices.

With important meat dishes such as a wild boar stew, it is excellent with polenta and venison sauce.

The Winery

The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 by Giovan Battista Bertani and his brother Gaetano, who had learnt the art of viticulture in France from Professor Guyot and succeeded in bringing a breath of fresh air to Verona. Innovative, for the time, was also the decision to market wine in bottles, starting exports to America even before the end of the 19th century. In the mid-twentieth century, farming activities were extended to the Valpolicella Classica area, but the heart remained in the valley of origin, the Valpantena, which stretches across the green, wide and stony north of the city of Verona. It is here that Cantina Bertani is based, one of the names that have made the history of Valpolicella and Amarone, among the most appreciated in the Veneto region and beyond. Today, with more than 200 hectares of vineyards in the most vocated areas of the Verona area, Bertani is a company whose distribution is constantly increasing in Europe and the world. There are two historic cellars, the one in Grezzana, where all vinification, bottling and shipping takes place, and Tenuta Novare in Arbizzano di Negrar, the heart of the classic Valpolicella area, which represents to the world, with its great red wines, the extraordinary work and passion of this family. In the vineyard, under the watchful eye of agronomist Andrea Leonardi, old vines that reach up to 35 metres in height alternate with recently planted vines and, with full respect for the environment and the ecosystem, has given way to the experimentation of organic viticulture with the future objective of using this regime for the entire estate. Coming to the wines, the flagship of Bertani's production is the Amarone, certainly one of the most appreciated and prestigious, which has received multiple awards and is followed by the loyalty of all quality wine enthusiasts. Recioto and Ripasso, moreover, are two other names that are part of the incredible range of bottles produced by this winery, further enriched by the wines produced in the Soave and Lake Garda areas. After more than a century of history, Bertani still shows us how courage and a spirit of innovation are fundamental elements for remaining at the top, without ever betraying its own identity and vision.
