A 5-star vintage, a wine that still embraces life with appreciable stubbornness; it lights up the glass with an intense colour that recalls garnet tones, edged with timid orange reflections. An aristocratic olfactory palette where the fragrance and strength of the black fruit still seems to be perceptible. Sensations of dried flowers move over an olfactory background of earthy notes, mushrooms, tobacco, balsamic puffs and endless spices. Juicy on the palate, the acidity and important tannin act as a flywheel, balancing the great evolution with balance and harmony. Its persistence is very long, traced by a veiled savouriness.

The Winery

Banfi is one of Italy's most famous wineries, whose history began in 1978, when the far-sighted vision of the Italo-American brothers John and Harry Mariani redefined the coordinates of the wine market, developing a project that looked far ahead and started from the best Italian tradition. The winery was founded by the brothers in Montalcino, with the aim of creating a modern estate where quality, quantity and tradition could coexist. Alongside the two brothers, Ezio Rivella, one of the greatest Italian oenologists of all time, also began this adventure. He immediately understood the potential of the project and of a production that could excel in the Tuscan panorama of the time. Today, the winery is run by cousins James and Cristina, exponents of the third generation of the Mariani family, at the helm of a business that produces no less than 10 million bottles each year. The castle of Poggio alle Mura, better known as Castello Banfi, is a veritable empire extending over some three thousand hectares, lying between the Orcia and Ombrone rivers, a third of which is dedicated to viticulture. In addition to the Montalcino terroir, the vineyards also cover the prestigious areas of the Maremma and Chianti Classico, expanding into the lands of Piedmont, Emilia and South America, in a mosaic of soils, each with its own specific conformations. A territory, therefore, that carries within itself the best geological and climatic characteristics not only for the two traditional grape varieties Sangiovese and Moscadello, but also for the main international noble varieties. The standard of quality is a daily mission that unites the work in each of the vineyards, integrating the most innovative techniques together with the desire to have an eco-sustainable production chain, in order to preserve the integrity and richness of the grapes as much as possible. Environmental sustainability, but not only. Research is also a key factor that is best expressed in what is a real novelty in the world of oenology, called 'Horizon': careful zoning of the vineyards and solutions aimed at the dynamics of production, in a seamless transition between vineyard and cellar, allowing the different grape varieties to express themselves to their full potential. This is how, among more than seven thousand barriques, wines of exceptional charm and elegance are born, always in step with the times. A set of labels that combine the tradition of different terroirs and the experience of the cellar, with Brunello di Montalcino Riserva "Poggio all'oro", the wine that more than any other symbolises Castello Banfi, to give you an evening of quality.
