The typical orange label of this famous champagne is, by now, familiar to all of us, but perhaps not everyone knows that it owes its fortune to Madame Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, an enterprising and strong-willed woman who, at only 27 years of age, upon the death of her husband Philippe Clicquot (hence the name Veuve), took over the reins of the maison, giving it luster and notoriety. Thanks to her, the company expanded, both through the purchase of new vineyards and exports to Russia and, thus, with the subsequent European-wide popularity of its champagne.

Straw yellow with golden highlights and fine perlage, it opens on aromas of brioche bread, white flowers and dried fruit, then chalky mineral notes and vaguely sweet notes of honey and vanilla. Striking on the palate for its freshness and balance, it has fruity references and a nice mineral trail on the finish.

Perfect as an aperitif, it goes well with seafood and shellfish dishes but try it with a nice piece of mortadella pizza and you won't regret it!

The Winery

Veuve Clicquot: guarantee of quality.
The Maison Clicquot was founded in 1772 by banker and textile industrialist Philippe and later run, with great ambition, by his son Francois. He died by suicide in 1805, leaving Barbe Nicole, whom he had married six years earlier, a widow. Although the widow was just 27 years old, she succeeded in transforming the small family business into a timeless brand, a symbol of quality champagne.
