TREASURE OF ABRUZZO
Among the flagship wines of Cataldi Madonna's prized range, as well as of the entire region, there is certainly Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, the rosé wine obtained by brief maceration of the skins of pure Montepulciano and several months of resting on the fine lees before bottling. The result is a wine that differs from most of Italy's rosés in its more intense colour, aromatic richness and structure, capable of great satisfaction even if waited a few years.

Sparkling coral pink in the glass. The olfactory impact is refreshing, with hints of raspberry, cherry, redcurrant, blood orange that intertwine with floral embroideries of violets, red roses, enriched by green nuances that bring to mind shrubs and fragrant herbs. In the mouth it is deep, enveloping and elegantly moulds itself in a dance between freshness and savouriness, softening the vigorous body. Lovely savoury and floral finish.

It is a perfect wine for summer dishes, fresh cheeses, pasta with sauce, but also fried fish, shellfish. Try it with pizza Margherita.

The Winery

A point of reference for viticulture, not only in Abruzzo but throughout Italy, the winery of the Cataldi Madonna barons was established in 1920, some three generations ago. With its 31.4 hectares under vine, in which exclusively native varieties such as Montepulciano, Pecorino and Trebbiano are grown, the winery alone presides over the entire Ofena wine-growing district. 'The oven of Abruzzo', this is how the small plateau on the slopes of the Gran Sasso and below the Calderone, the only glacier in the Apennines, is known. At the centre of this flat, amphitheatre-shaped basin is Ofena. These are important factors in that they generate a unique microclimate, an area that is warm and sheltered during the day and then cooled by mountain currents in the cool summer evenings. In the vineyard, the objective is not only the yields but also the balance of the plant, so that it expresses the characteristics of the terroir in the best possible way. In the cellar, too, we proceed in the same direction, with vinification and ageing that prefers steel, and a small part of the production in large cement tanks. Lesser, but no less important, is the space dedicated to the barrel cellar, where Tonì and the Pecorino and Montepulciano selections mature, produced only in the best vintages. The aim is to enhance the fruit and its primary and secondary aromas, with ageing in reduction to preserve the integrity of the freshest aromas. Only through hard work, passion and care is it possible to have excellent wines that demonstrate the company's philosophy through ease of drinking, without neglecting flavour and territoriality. These range from the aforementioned 'Tonì', the only one in the range to see wood, to the white 'Spergiulia', which relies on the best selection of Pecorino grapes, and the 'Piè delle vigne', Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo produced only in the best vintages and always difficult to find. All great wines, endowed with character and strongly expressive of the territory in which they are born.
