Montebuoni was born in 2018 and is the direct heir to Castello di Ama Riserva: with this wine the winery returns to producing a Chianti Classico Riserva with the intention of having the splendor of the austere San Lorenzo combined with the drinkability of the young Ama. The winery itself defines it as the most honest representation of the elegance of Sangiovese in its terroir of reference, a taste that reveals the quality with which it is made, a quality that speaks of perfectly healthy grapes, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and an aging in second-passage French oak barrels for at least 12 months. A great wine, in perfect Castello di Ama style.

Bright ruby red with vivid purple highlights, it has a predominantly fruity nose of blackberry, raspberry and currant, then refined nuances of violet and dog rose with touches of sweet tobacco and leather. Persuasive and full on the palate, it shows backbone and substance, great elegance in the fine, polished tannins and perfect freshness accompanying a long persistence.

Delicious with barbecued pork chops.

The Winery

Among the first to have introduced the cru concept in Italy, among the first to have used barrique during maturation or new planting techniques in the vineyard. This, and more, is Castello di Ama, a revolutionary winery from the hills of the village of the same name, 500 meters above sea level, in the historic heart of Chianti. The winery was founded in the 1970s by the family of Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti, who bought the Bellavista vineyard in 1978, the San Lorenzo vineyard in 1982, the La Casuccia vineyard in 1985 and the Bertinga vineyard in 1988, names inspired by traditions or surrounding villages, for a total of 80 hectares under vine characterized by soils of different nature and exposure to each other. A significant date in the history of Castello di Ama is 1991, the year when in Switzerland, at the Académie du Vin in Zurich:, during a blind tasting dedicated to Merlots from around the world, Castello di Ama's L'Apparita 1987 was the one that routed all the French wines. It was the forerunner to a decade of successes that saw Marco Pallanti himself being appointed ambassador of Chianti Classico, serving two terms as president of the Consortium, and in 2005, the winery was declared the Best of the Year. All this declined in a range of labels of sublime quality, recognized throughout the world, ranging from "Apparita," the award-winning Merlot in purity of undisputed charm and elegance, to Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "San Lorenzo," a red wine of great stuff that challenges all the greatest Sangiovese-based wines, passing through the Chardonnay di Toscana Igt " Al Poggio," from selected clones of Chardonnay rooted cuttings originating in Burgundy.

Wow

If you're a fan of Chianti, you need to try this Riserva from Castello Di Ama. The blackberry, raspberry, and currant notes are so delicious, and the hints of leather and tobacco add depth. It's full-bodied and elegant, and pairs perfectly with barbecued pork chops.

I'm in love with this Chianti Classico Riserva!

The vibrant ruby red color and fruity nose are just the start. The polished tannins and perfect freshness make for an amazing experience. It's the perfect wine to pair with barbecued pork chops.

An absolute deli

The fruity nose is just the beginning of the wonderful journey this wine takes you on. Perfectly balanced, it's full of substance and elegance. And it pairs perfectly with barbecued pork chops.
