AN IMPRESSIVE GAGLIOPPO
Aris Cirò is made from pure Gaglioppo grapes, from bush-trained vines boasting at least 50 years of age, expertly managed by Sergio Arcuri without useless technicalities or enological forcing, but all under the banner of craftsmanship and tradition. A production philosophy that has remained unchanged over the years, with the aim of creating wines that best represent a territory with enormous potential. Therefore, the harvest is done strictly by hand, while in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks and patient macerations take place. The wine ages 18 months in cement tanks before being bottled. Thus the style of this Gaglioppo is traditional, authentic, right from its low concentrated color and aromas that must be sought in the glass, revealing all its energy thanks to its freshness and savoriness.

Ruby red tending to garnet, intense and lively. The nose combines the warmth of its place of origin, which shows itself with gusts of brackish aromas, Mediterranean scrub, plum and carob, with great finesse and admirable elegance. The palate is notable for a textured, tight sip, where well-integrated tannin and a freshness that constantly entices drinking play a leading role. Long persistence, slowly fading to tones of expressive territoriality.

Given its good structure, it is a wine suitable for accompanying main courses of roasted or stewed red meat, sliced meats and cured meats, but also with a tomato fish soup.

The Winery

We are in Cirò Marina, Ionian Calabria, and it is here that we find the Sergio Arcuri winery, family-owned and with nearly two centuries of history behind it. Today it is run by Sergio and Francesco Arcuri, two brothers who grew up among the vineyards, who, with a strong passion for vine cultivation and a great spirit of sacrifice, follow up on the work undertaken by their father Giuseppe and his grandfather, the latter of whom founded the company in 1880. From them they inherit experience and winemaking technique, as well as the ability to produce a genuine red wine made from Gaglioppo grapes typical of the area. Since 2009, the two brothers have in fact taken the helm in their own hands, continuing on the road started without changing almost anything: vats, concrete tanks and other tools are still the same in the small winery adjacent to the house in a small side street at the entrance to Cirò Marina, thus starting the bottling of their wine to make it known even outside the Calabrian territory. The Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore "Aris" and a rosé "Il Marinetto," come from exclusively organic vineyards, including 2 hectares planted with alberello vines, adopting an organic regime certified since 2015, which provides low yields, high quality, very few treatments and no use of chemicals. Choices that determine the character and personality of Sergio Arcuri's wines. Wines that go beyond the trends of the moment, exalting ripe fruit on the nose and softness on the palate. Choosing to vinify Gaglioppo in purity, with its soft and lively red colors, its tannins, its minerality, the delicate scents of red fruits and fresh flowers, not to "domesticate" it with the help of other grapes, is a courageous and commendable choice, because it means choosing to preserve the typicality of a grape variety and a territory.
