Compact and creamy, Formadi Frant is an alpine cheese that releases the values of an ancient knowledge and tradition, handed down through generations.
We are in Carnia, in one of the mountain areas of upper Friuli in the province of Udine. An area that is still unchanged, retaining its natural beauty of wide green valleys and snow-capped Alpine peaks, on the border with Austria. Here, the production of cheese and sausages and salamis are a point of excellence in Italian gastronomy for their fragrance and seasoning steeped in the territory.
Frant cheese or properly called Formadi Frant is a cheese product, like the more widespread Montasio, of great value in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is, first and foremost, a Slow Food Presidium supported by Cirmont, the Carnia Mountain Community and Banca di Cividale to make it known and support it in the defence of its very special production, and it is a PAT-certified cheese, the acronym for Traditional Food Products.
It is a variety of cheese that is not easy to buy. A small local producer is working with DolceMediterranbeo to promote this rare cheese in the United States, which is made by hand.
