A GREAT DISCOVERY
Immediately after the war, from 1946 onward, an intense smuggling distillation activity developed in Sardinia, carried out mostly in backyards, outdoors and during cold winter nights. The juniper plant, in Sardinian is called giniperu, and the product obtained by distilling its berries was identified with the term giniu. The commercialization of this liqueur lasted until the first half of the 1960s, after which it was shelved because it was considered too laborious, compared to the simple distillation of wine or pomace; but since 2013 Silvio Carta has been reproducing this historic liqueur, finding great success for lovers of tradition, thanks also to the choice of distilling the galbules of the juniper plant (rich in essential oils), a change that has allowed the (re)birth of an incredible product, which brings back, at the first sip, the colors and scents of the wonderful Sardinia.
Clear and transparent in color, the nose presents the characteristic aromas of Gin, with intense hints of Mediterranean scrub and typical herbs, along with vegetal and resinous sensations. The flavor is the highest expression of gin in terms of savoriness, taste, delicacy and smoothness, in an excellent taste balance that makes them infinitely pleasant and invites further tastings.
