TUSCAN TEMPERAMENT
A sensitive, warm and jovial temperament characterises this man, Stefano Rizzi, who after years divided between New York and the Tuscan Maremma managed to realise his lifelong dream of running his own winery. In the splendid theatre that stretches from Gavorrano to Massa Marittima, passing through Roccastrada, amidst soils, woods, streams and vineyards, Maremmalta produces organic-certified wines with grace and energy, from vineyards that are indigenous to the area and are particularly expressive here, thanks to the rainbow of different climates and territories. The path towards biodynamic agriculture further identifies a great company, with important quality standards and very small numbers, which further enhance the taste of the splendid Tuscan Maremma.

A concentrated ruby red colour, it has intense spicy aromas of freshly ground pepper, cinchona and clove on the nose, together with sweet fruity notes of black cherry jam and balsamic puffs of eucalyptus. In the mouth it is lively, slender in its freshness and well measured in its tannic texture, aided by the right sapidity that accompanies it towards a long clove persistence.

Excellent with savoury hors d'oeuvres of cured meats and mature cheeses or with pan-cooked pigeon.

The Winery

There is a lot of oenological history behind the character of Stefano Rizzi, a great interpreter and pillar of the Maremmalta winery, a very young winery immersed in the Maremma region, precisely in the municipality of Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto. Stefano has always been a man of wine, and a few years ago, after having contributed substantially to the growth of some pearls of Tuscan oenology, he crowned the dream of a lifetime: a piece of land in Maremma, his adoptive land, where he can produce wine the way he likes it. In fact, he has managed to build his own small winery, which he personally manages at every stage of the production chain. As can be easily understood, the name chosen for the company refers to Rizzi's close bond with the Maremma, an area rich in natural wonders, and is intended to emphasise the wine entrepreneur's desire to be present with a strong personal commitment, without setting limits on quality, both in terms of wine and culture. We are talking about the lesser-known Maremma, close to the Colline Metallifere in the heart of Monteregio, where vineyards are planted for the cultivation, above all, of Sangiovese and Vermentino, conducted on a fully organic basis. The terroir is characterised by soils of sandstone matrix, traversed by beneficial sea breezes and subject to temperature changes favourable to plant health, ideal for the production of high quality wines. The wines produced by Stefano Rizzi's company favour balance and drinkability, marked by a character of expressive territoriality. The protagonists of the range include the Morellino di Scansano "Campo al ghiaccio", elegant and generous, made from Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo grapes, while, under the name "Micante", two Toscana IGT wines stand out, one from Sangiovese grapes, a pure and simple expression of the Maremma, the other with Vermentino, which gives life to a characteristic and charismatic white wine, a conditioned reflection of the company's philosophy and the man who created it.
