SALENTO IN A GLASS
Masseria Spaccafico represents an interesting oenological laboratory in the heart of Salento leaning toward the production of good quality wines that wink at a quality-price ratio that fears no comparison. The production enhances indigenous grape varieties giving us wines with structure and personality such as this Piro Piro, a pure Negroamaro that expresses Salento territory at its best.

It offers itself to the eye in ruby guise. Impenetrable. The nose is intense, elegant with sensations of carob and hints of sweet spice emerging from a fresh bouquet of small black berries such as black currant and blackberry. On the palate it is structured, soft in tannins and endowed with good freshness. The finish is long and persistent.

Ideal on a truffled pheasant or to accompany a good aged Caciocavallo Silano.

The Winery

Paolo Leo's is the beautiful story of a family and its hard work that more than 30 years ago led it to introduce its first bottles to the market. The story of an inherited passion that today reaches the fifth generation of winemakers, united by their love for wine and for a land, Salento, that they have never abandoned. We are talking about a modern winery, with a 17,000-square-meter headquarters and 45 hectares of vineyards surrounding the ancient masseria where the progenitor Antonio Leo began, at the beginning of the 20th century, to make wine from his grapes. We are located in the heart of Salice Salentino DOP. Here the soils are predominantly clay and limestone, reddish in color, permeable to water, with more sandy areas and others with emerging rock. The strong sun exposure during most of the year, combined with the total absence of rainfall in summer and strong ventilation, means that the grapes can grow healthy without having to resort to synthetic treatments. Paolo Leo wineries offer an entire line of ICEA-certified organic wines that express a desire to protect the landscape and biodiversity of Salento. The vines are raised in the "alberello" style, which take advantage of the hot sun to sprout and at the same time cool the soil with the shade of their leaves. The two typical varieties of this area, Primitivo and Negroamaro, dominate among the rows, to which are added white and black Malvasia di Lecce, Chardonnay and Fiano. The clusters are meticulously hand-selected during the harvest and brought to the winery to be processed according to modern winemaking techniques. Thus are born labels that tell like few others all the beauty of Salento's terroir.
