VITIGNO Negroamaro
DENOMINATION Salento Negroamaro Rosato IGP

PAIRING Aperitif, Fish, First courses, Cold cuts

It is no mystery that Apulia is a great land for quality rosé wines, thanks to sea breezes and fresh native red grape varieties that succeed in perfection in reaching the right ripeness, while retaining the unmistakable mineral character of just the right freshness and flavor. It is precisely from this union, combined with the tradition of the native Negroamaro and the innovation of Masseria Spaccafico, a young reality in Salento, that Pettorosa was born, a wine that tells, through its origins, its qualitative identity and versatility, managing to enter the gustatory memory and the heart of those who drink it and arousing emotion and surprise.

A lively and bright rosé color, it presents on the nose an intense aroma of wild strawberry and raspberry, along with sensations of pink grapefruit and sweeter notes of violet and lavender, in a mineral background. The taste is fresh and lively, rightly savory and full-bodied, very pleasant in the fruity references that also characterize a good persistence.

Excellent as an aperitif, it holds pleasant surprises with risotto alla pescatore, mullet in guazzetto, cacciucco and stuffed squid, but also with cured meats.

The Winery

Paolo Leo's is the beautiful story of a family and its hard work that more than 30 years ago led it to introduce its first bottles to the market. The story of an inherited passion that today reaches the fifth generation of winemakers, united by their love for wine and for a land, Salento, that they have never abandoned. We are talking about a modern winery, with a 17,000-square-meter headquarters and 45 hectares of vineyards surrounding the ancient masseria where the progenitor Antonio Leo began, at the beginning of the 20th century, to make wine from his grapes. We are located in the heart of Salice Salentino DOP. Here the soils are predominantly clay and limestone, reddish in color, permeable to water, with more sandy areas and others with emerging rock. The strong sun exposure during most of the year, combined with the total absence of rainfall in summer and strong ventilation, means that the grapes can grow healthy without having to resort to synthetic treatments. Paolo Leo wineries offer an entire line of ICEA-certified organic wines that express a desire to protect the landscape and biodiversity of Salento. The vines are raised in the "alberello" style, which take advantage of the hot sun to sprout and at the same time cool the soil with the shade of their leaves. The two typical varieties of this area, Primitivo and Negroamaro, dominate among the rows, to which are added white and black Malvasia di Lecce, Chardonnay and Fiano. The clusters are meticulously hand-selected during the harvest and brought to the winery to be processed according to modern winemaking techniques. Thus are born labels that tell like few others all the beauty of Salento's terroir.
