THE WINE OF 'FIRSTS'
The first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques and the first 'modern' red wine, blended with non-traditional varieties (in fact, it also has Cabernet in it) and among the first red wines in Chianti Classico not to use white grapes: Tignanello is a record-breaking wine that, with every harvest, manages to make people talk about it! The 2020 vintage was characterized by regular weather conditions, with a cold winter and low rainfall, a cool and rainy spring and a summer with no thermal peaks; at the end of August and during the weeks leading up to the harvest, the weather was optimal, allowing all the grapes grown in the famous Tignanello vineyard to ripen perfectly. The recipe did not change: Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were processed separately, all three underwent malolactic fermentation and aged, in a first phase, in French and Hungarian oak barrels, both new and second-passage, for 14-16 months; after an initial aging in separate lots, the wines were blended to complete their evolution in wood. The Tignanello then aged for an additional 12 months in bottle before being presented to the market.
Intense and vibrant ruby red in color, the nose surprises with its great complexity: fruity notes of pomegranate and strawberry blend with peaches in syrup and apricots, all framed by vanilla, dark chocolate and a hint of nutmeg, without neglecting the deep side that is the very soul of Tignanello and that translates with Mediterranean herbs, mint and vibrant balsamic nuances. Tasting no less, it is aristocratic and enveloping, characterized by velvety but vibrant tannins that are flanked by savoriness and freshness. A wine already of admirable balance, it also confirms its potential in the long, endless persistence of bitter cocoa and roasted coffee.
A wine for important meats and special occasions but, above all, with special people! Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
The Winery
Talking about the Antinori winery is very difficult because you really have to go back in time! In fact, it was back in 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri, and it was not until the 16th century that the family's wines became known outside the borders of Italy. Today, the family continues to write its very long history of tradition and quality, helping to bring Italian wine to the top of the world, through the many estates it owns from which an ever-expanding range is born: Guado al Tasso, Pian delle Vigne, La Braccesca, Castello della Sala, are just a few of the protagonists of this never-ending story, located between Bolgheri, Montalcino, Montepulciano and Orvieto, territories considered the 'cradle' of central Italian wine-making. Not to mention Solaia and Tignanello, among the most appreciated red wines in the world, symbols of a constant and continuous search for quality; what we most want to emphasize is how, even in the most 'simple' expressions, the family knows how to bring out its proverbial appeal: each Antinori-branded glass reveals a glimpse of the lands from which it comes and of the history linked to these lands, giving satisfaction with aristocratic ways and always managing, at the same time, to maintain an international outlook because, as the family likes to tell it, ancient roots play a fundamental role in the philosophy but will never inhibit the company's innovative spirit!
